2026 Solo Recital Award

Have you always dreamed of challenging yourself and performing as a soloist in front of a large audience?

This year at the MACF Festival, the “Sounds of the Sand” String Masterclasses will be your gateway to the stage.

How does it work?

Regulations

The competition, organized as part of the MACF Festival, aims to promote young musicians who meet the eligibility requirements (students at conservatories and music high schools, as well as recent graduates) by offering them the professional opportunity to perform as soloists accompanied by the orchestra.

Eligibility Requirements

The competition is open to all string instrument students who are officially enrolled in the Festival’s masterclasses.

Voluntary and automatic enrollment:

All full-time students enrolled in the string instrument masterclasses (violin, viola, cello, double bass) who decide to participate in the competition will be automatically considered candidates for the 2026 fall soloist selection, provided that their repertoire—which they will perform for their assigned instructor—includes one of the mandatory solo pieces specified in the rules.

Awards

  • A solo performance at the Gala Concert with the MACF Orchestra, in collaboration with ASO Progetto Orchestra, in the fall of 2026 in one of the municipalities participating in the project, and a Certificate of Merit.
  • A scholarship worth 350.00 euros.
  • A professional audio recording of the concert.

Selection Criteria:

Selection will not be based on a separate competition, but rather on the teachers’ ongoing observation during the masterclass sessions and the two public recitals held during Festival week in which the students will participate. At these events, students will have the opportunity to perform repertoire pieces and orchestral excerpts for the masters—including works by composers other than those featured in the solo pieces in question. The following criteria will be evaluated: technical proficiency, interpretive maturity, and aptitude for the solo role.

At least one of the scheduled lessons with the assigned instructor will be devoted to listening to the selected solo piece. The final selection of the most deserving student will be made by the Festival’s Artistic Director after consulting with the assigned instructors of the string department.

Announcement of the Winner

The name of the student selected for the concert with orchestra, which will take place in the fall of 2026, will be announced following the students’ final concert, at the ceremony for the presentation of diplomas and any scholarships on July 12, 2026.

Double bassists will perform in the dedicated recital scheduled for a date after July 12, 2026, as the relevant masterclass concludes on July 14, 2026

It is possible that two students will be selected for the Gala Concert
