Silvia Marcovici - Violin
Born in Bacău, she studied violin at the Bucharest Conservatory with Maestro Stefan Gheorghiu. Already well-known in her home country, she made her international debut while still 16 years old with The Hague Stable Orchestra under the direction of Bruno Maderna, playing Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto.
In 1969, he won the "Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud" competition in Paris, and the following year he won first prize in the George Enescu International Competition in Bucharest.
Invited by Leopold Stokowski, she performs in the Glazunov concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall. The concert is recorded by Decca Records. Since then, Silvia Marcovici has performed regularly in America, Japan, Israel, and throughout Europe with major European and American orchestras such as the Philharmonia, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France, the Symphony Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, and the New York Philharmonic.
He has worked with the greatest conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Sergiu Comissiona, James DePreist, Plácido Domingo, Bernard Haitink, Eliahu Inbal, Neeme Järvi, Jesús López Cobos, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, André Previn, Mstislav Rostropovich, Alessandro Siciliani, David Zinman and many others.
He plays a late 18th century Albani violin.
