Milton Masciadri - Double Bass

He is a professor of double bass at the "University of Georgia" where he has been a faculty member since 1984. Representing the third generation of double bass player in his family, he was born in Montevideo, Uruguay and began studying double bass under the guidance of his father. At age 17 he was co-principal with the Porto Alegre Orchestra in Brazil, at age 19 he was a faculty member at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. He completed his master's and doctoral degrees in double bass in the United States under such distinguished masters as Gary Karr, Julius Levine, and Lawrence Wolfe.

Masciadri has an intense solo activity with major symphony orchestras in Europe, Asia, North America, Central America and South America.

He has taught master classes at famous institutions such as The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Paris Conservatoire, Guildhall School of Music in London, Moscow Conservatory, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires National Conservatory, Milan Conservatory and many others.

His solo activity has led him to play in major concert halls such as New York Lincoln Center, "La Fenice" in Venice, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Castro Alves Opera House in Salvador (Bahia, Brazil) and Municipal Theater in Sao Paulo. During the summer he teaches at numerous international festivals in the United States, South America and Europe.

Masciadri has recorded for labels such as DMR, Sinfonica, ACA & Foundation. His enthusiasm for expanding the repertoire for double bass has led him to publish "world premieres" of contemporary composers in the United States and South America, including works commissioned by institutions such as UNESCO and Funarte; also of note is Masciadri's contribution with countless transcriptions and arrangements.

Some of the 2021 performances include concerts in Italy, Spain, France, Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Colombia, China, Denmark and the United States.

In 2009 Dr. Masciadri received the title of "Distinguished University Professor of the University of Georgia," the first "Fine Arts" faculty member to be honored in its 62-year history; he also holds the title of "Academician" of the Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna. He has been awarded Medal of Honor for Academic Achievements for his service as a musician and lecturer for the people of Brazil; he is on the list of "International Who's Who in Music"; in 1998 he was honored by UNESCO as an Artist for Peace; and in 2011 he was honored with the title of Knight of St. Mark's in Venice.
